1. Ważna informacja dla producentów suplementów diety zawierających oligosacharydy i inulinę.

"Courtesy of CRN, this is to inform you that the UK Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) are currently reviewing the benefits of oligosaccharides and inulin. The SACN Panel believes that inulin should not be defined as a fibre source, as the Committee believes it does not fall into the classification of fibre. The Committee is not convinced of the beneficial effects of these substances on diabetes, weight loss, lowering cholesterol, blood pressure and any other pre-biotic effects.

Their opinion is attached at draft stage but is likely to be finalised in the coming weeks. This SACN review is intended to be used by the UK FSA for EU negotiations on the definition of fibre.

This could have a very significant impact on inulin and oligosaccharide food supplement claims where companies are claiming both pre-biotic effects and enhanced fibre.

We would therefore like members to report to us whether any of their members are concerned and have technical & scientific expertise that may be used, if necessary, to counter the UK SACN conclusions.

It may be necessary that action is taken at national level and/or EC level to react to this opinion when formally issued, if it is put by the FSA for discussion at EU level."
